Diligent practice always wins the Race

Children today’s story is about diligent practice.

There was a king ruled in a country named Kanyakubja. (Modern day Kannauj) One day he went for hunting to a forest with troops. After finish his hunting he felt so hungry and he told a Soldier to find some food like fruits or something in this forest. That soldier went around and he found a hermitage and there were some rishis were living. So, he went to that hermitage and asked a prime Rishi “O swamy the Kanyakubj Maharaja with troops has come for hunting to this forest, our king is having hungry can we have some food to us?” As soon heard the message from the soldier, that Rishi said very happily bring him we will provide food to you all.” That soldier went to the king and told the details. All went to that hermitage the king met the rishi and he conveyed his humble salutations, and that rishi also greet him and his troops,and gave seats to them. Then the rishi asked the king about Protection of national interest in his kingdom. The king replied to the sage that "O revered rishi by your kind of revered sage’s blessings myself and all my countrymen are safe and well protected. The king also enquired about Rishi’s protection and other things. Once they finished their goodwill talks, then the Rishi gave a grand feast to the king and his troops.

When the king was eating, he thought himself that “I am a king to a country yet this kind of rare grand feast have never eaten, though how my countrymen could eat good food? I am wondering, that how this sage provided this kind of rare grand feast to me and my whole troop in this kind of dense forest?  He was thinking many times and at last the king came out of confusion, then he asked to the sage with humbled style "O revered Rishi, I am a king but this kind of rare feast I have not eaten in my life. We say goodbye, thank you very much for your kindness and very tasted food, and we leave to our country with your blessings".   That rishi blessed them and the king and his troops returned to his country.

The next day after thinking many times he called his minister and he asked for his advice about the grand feast given in that hermitage." O minister, we are living in a big country.  We are not able to provide good food to our citizens. How could a forest-dwelling sage give such a big feast? The Minister replayed to the king "O Maharaja our citizens are well eating and living comfortable life so, why are you worrying? The king said to the minister "Yes minister I am also aware yet I wish to know that how a sage dwelling in a dense forest provided such a kind of feast to me and my troops. let me know the way to find out.

The next day the minister came to the king and said:

"Oh king! After thinking for a long time, I have come to a conclusion and that's what I am here to inform you, that you go personally to hermitage and ask how was possible. I think this is better idea, The king was also thinking the same so, the king went to the hermitage. As soon the Rishi saw the king, who greets the king and enquired about his visit again.  The king conveyed his humble salutations to the rishi, and king said: "O revered Rishi that day how you have provided such a rare kind of food to me and my troops, how was it possible to provide such a kind of feast? and how did you manage?  The rishi replied to the king with smiling face: "O king I am a sage, how could provide such a kind of feast?  with all blessings of my mother Kamadenu, she did provide such a kind of feast. 

The Rishi showed the divine cow to the king. as soon he saw the cow, he conveyed his humble salutations to the cow and asked the Rishi "O revered sage, this kind of the cow should be useful to the kingdom so give me this cow to my kingdom. The sage said: O respected King this cow is from gologam, and it is gifted by devas for my penance, so, pardon me I cannot give you my goddess mother. The king said to the sage O revered Sage don't worry about your penance I can provide thousand cows. Please give this one. The sage refused to give so, the king again and again asked to the sage at last he begged to the sage but he refused to the king. Then the king by forced the cow to take to his kingdom, but it is not agreed to go with the King, he tried many time the cow definitely refused to go with the king.

The king brought his troops, and fought with the sage to take the cow, but that godly cow it breath out and from that breath lots of troops came out fought with the king and his troops, at last the king defeated. The king never and ever saw defeat, yet he saw this event the first time. then he decided that " this sage has this much of power by his penance, what is the use of I am being king?  he vowed that he would renounce this royal life and do penance and went to his kingdom and

After handing over all responsibilities, to his son, and went to top of Himalayan Mountain and performed penance. After a few years of severe penance, now and then he faced so many obstacles came and the penance was dissolved and he failed miserably, but he did not give up in his efforts. He put more and more effort to do penance At last, he won and he became Bhramma Rishi and he earned the name Viswamitrar. The meaning of this name is Visvam means the world Mitra means friend. So, the world friend. He became one of 24 rishis. His motivation was very strong he did severe penance and diligent practices on austerities so he became Brahma Rishi. He is the rishi founder of Gayatri japa mantram.  “Sage Vishwamitra is honored as the earliest Indian astronomer. He is credited with for cataloguing the Stars visible in theSouthern sky and he created a world in the space.

So, Children we learned from this story that we should never give up our effort and our motivation should be strong.

Sage Jamadhagni used to teach Vedas and Sastras to a number of disciples. All the children will stay there and study in that Gurukulam.
