Learn in Time

My dear children
Today I am going to tell the story about learning.

There was a king ruling in a country. His name is Uthanapathan and he has two queens. The first queen’s Name is Suneethi and the second queen’s name is Sruchi. The king has two male children. That is the first queen’s child name is Duruvan and the second queen’s child name is Uttaman.

One day that king was sitting on his Royal seat with his second wife Sruchi keeping Uttaman on his lap.  Seeing, this Duruvan running to his father and tried to sit on his father's lap, but his second wife who under being jealous natures she pushes Duruvan and said “O child, if you want to sit on Uthman’s father's lap or wish to rule this country, for that. either you should be born from my womb, or you have to perform penance. go away” telling this she pushed him. The unfortunate child he ran to his mother Suneethi and told her the whole story. Suneethi told Durvan that “O my child you don’t worry about all these happened; all these are good to you for your future. Yes, your stepmother's word is true my child you go to forest and do penance. As his mother's word he proceeds go to a forest to do penance, on his way to forest fortunately he met Naradha.

Naradha asked the child “My Child Where are you going alone? Duruvan said: “I am going to a forest to do penance”.  Naradha smilingly Surprisingly said to Duruvan: O my child penance? In this age? Duruvan answered,” Yes, my stepmother insulted me, also she said if you want to sit on the lap of Uthman’s father or would rule the country either you should be born from my womb or you should do penance. Telling this she pushed me I went and told my mother my mother told me that “yes, my child your stepmother is true, ok you do penance, that’s why I am proceeding to a forest. Naradha asked the child “O my child your mother may told you to do penance once you grown up, now you are too small to go to forest to do penance, so now you go home then once you grownup, you can go to the forest and then you could perform penance.

With tears in his eyes Duruvan said to Naradha: No, I am not able to tolerate her insulted, she hurtled me, I won’t go home, I wish to do penance as my mother said.  When Dhruva told Narada he looked at him surprisingly, and Naratha asked Duruva. O child, are you serious about going to forest and doing penance? and do you know at least the way to forest? No, I don't know the way to forest. if that so, I come with you and show the forest and right place then you can do your penance.  That's right did your mother say any particular god? not at all she did not mention any particular God.

As soon he heard his sad story, compassionately who initiated the Vasudeva mantram to Duruva, and he explained the appearance of Sri Vasudeva to Duruva, and he teach the rules, to him.

With devotionally attentively Duruva learned, then Duruva pay his solutions to Naradha and he followed Naradha’s advice, and he sit under a tree, and according the rule of the penance Duruva begins his penance. Naradha Happily went to his place. After a very long year of his penance, Duruva has got the answer, that is Sri Vasudeva appeared in front of him, and he asked Duruva “O My Child I am very Happy for your penance, what is the boon you wish from me? Duruva paid his solutions to Sri Vasudeva and said "O Sri Vasudeva I don't want to go back to the country, I wish to get salvation to me and my mother. “That is my wish. As soon heard his wish Sri Vasudeva said to him “child I gave you the boon as yours wish, however at present not for your salvation, now you go to your country, and in appropriate age you will be crowned as an emperor and you wisely rule the country, at last in right time you will attain your salvation and shine as a star in the sky. God said to Duruvan blessed him and disappeared from his sight. Then Duruvan went home. In due course Dhruva is crowned as emperor and rules the country according to his boon and at last he got his salvations, and appears in the sky, as a star shining like a million suns even now. what is the reason? because he without any laziness, he gave respect to his mother's word, listened with respect and attentively his Guru's teachings, and he did his penance with whole hearted and faithfully at this young age. So he is still shining in the sky as a star. Children, with this story we learnt that the lesson is that the children should respect parents  and the teacher's words and learn the lessons carefully without being laziness in youth. We will also follow the parents, elders, and our teacher.

This story based on Avvaiyar's aatthicudi. The songs are Ilamaiyil kal, and Paruvatthe Payirsei.

introduction

In the olden days when the children's sleeping time or when they are free from their homework, the grandmother or some other elderly relatives will teach them, what is virtue, what is its value, and responsibilities through the stories. the children will grow very talented with good knowledge. But in the current day’s the grownup children they learnt to live independently, but they have had no understanding about the eternal virtue’s realities, and its law. Those things should learn from their childhood. So, keeping this in my mind, I have started the bed time stories to young children.   The parents may read these stories in the children’s bedtime. All the stories based on Tamil poet Avvaiyar’s Aatthichoodi and  Valluvar's composition Thirukkural So, I Hope these are valuable stories to all the young children SarojaMani Date: 20th December 2022.
