The sage’s
name is Jamadhagni, his wife’s name is Vasuki and he had four sons. The fourth
son’s name is Parasurama.
Sage
Jamadhagni used to teach Vedas and Sastras to a number of disciples. All the
children will stay there and study in that Gurukulam. (That is like boarding
school) Even the princes also will stay and study along with other
children. Whether the teacher or king,
they will not think about ups and down. All were treated same. Parasurama also
one of Jamadhagni's disciples in that Gurukulam. Parasurama was being very smart,
attentive and diligently studding student. Very soon he learnt all the Vedas
and shastras taught by his father. Parasurama was extremely obedient son to his
father. But he had a very wroth natured man
Vasuki the
sage Jamdagni’s wife, she was very devoted to her husband. She will take great
care to all the students like her own children in the Gurukulam. She won't show any partiality between her
sons and the students. She was very kind hearted women. Every day early in the
morning she used to go to the river near by their hermitage, she will have bath
in that river, and after her bath she would make an earthen pot from the wet
sand and fetch water in the same pot for sage's puja. (Which means every day
she used to make a pitcher in wet sand, and she will be fetching water in that
same pitcher). It was her regular practice.
One day
after her bath, when she was making the pot, at that time a 'Gandharva'
(celestial beings) who passed over her head on the sky. She saw his mirrored
appearance in the river water, and just for a moment she amazed by his handsome
appearance. (in the ancient days a lady if she just sees and appreciate others
except her husband, it will be considered that lady is dishonest to her
husband.) As the result, however much she tried, could not make the pot. It
broke every time she shaped it. she could not bring water for her husband's
puja. Because of this reason Vasuki was very afraid to go home, so she stood on
there itself. Jamadagni was waiting for water to do perform puja, but she did
not bring water for puja. Sage Jamadagni sensed this through his mental powers
and rose angry, and wanting to punish her. So, he called his elder sons each one, and he
talked about his wife's action and ordered to kill her. But they refused to do
this sin action. So, finally he told Parasurama about his wife's action and
ordered to cut off her head and kill his elder sons. As soon as he heard the
news from his father, he rosed very angry on his mother and his brothers, so,
he immediately killed his mother and his brothers as his father's word.
See how
anger was work? Anger does not think any
good thing that has happened before and it won’t think any sympathy. When anger
arises, it will destroy everything. That is why the great scholars said
about angry, the anger nature is a morally ambiguous emotion, it is a
dangerous force, it can destroy the relationships, overturn social order, and
it will destroy the universe itself. The
doctor’s opinion is if one has angry character his blood pressure level will be
rise, and will get the dangerous heart attack. Even though Parasurama is one of
Vishnu's Incarnation, he had angry, and killing tendency as an animal. So, he
is an incomplete incarnation in the evolution.
So, this
incarnation, is giving warning to the people, angry nature is very bad and
also cruel nature to a man. If a man has this kind of cruel nature, his own
conscience itself will kill him. So angry is very dangerous and powerful
weapon. So, all the human beings should avoid Angry.
This story
is based on the Tamil poet Avvaiyar's Aatthichoodi. This is the second song
“Aaruvathu sinam"
