The ancient days the pine trees were considered the décor for the holidays. They were simple, fragrant, ever greenish, and serving source of joy during the harsh winter season. What does the pine tree symbolize? and how did it evolve, and when did it into one of the most celebrated icons? Yes! Let us see the very interesting pine tree history.
In the winter season the sunlight will be less, it is universal canon. During this season all plants and trees will be losing their color and leaves, yet the pine trees are greener than other trees and they won’t lose their leaves and color in all four seasons. The reason is those are having the energy to retain the leaves and their color. So, they are called ever green trees.
When the sunrays reaching its maximum or minimum declination so it is changing the time twice in a year. So, this is marking the longest and shortest days, and also it is turning point of the weather condition. Unknowing this fact the ancient Egyptians believed that, the Sun God, Ra's power is becoming less so ra is very hot and (ancient Egyptians used to worshiped the sun and it was called as Ra.) too weak, that's why the weather condition is cooler and darker. To remove this absence of the sun light and to keep it cool, the ancient Egyptians were covered as decoration with palm leaves and pine tree branches on their homes roof.
Similarly, the ancient Romans celebrated a grand banquet festival called Saturnalia with a decorated pine tree in the spring season. That celebration was very popular and the Romans were very happy.
Now we will see where did the pine trees originated?
The pine trees cultivation is discovered in Germany on 16th centuries. In the beginning the Germans were celebrated the Christmas decorating the whole pine tree. later on, they felt it is very tough task to decorate the full tree, so, then the later stage they set up a pyramid-shaped of pine tree branches inside their homes. (The Germans, who are the first creators this culture of celebrating Christmas festival with decorated Christmas tree.)
A few years later, Martin Luther King began the practice of adding candles and on decorated the pine tree branches and lighting them. This tradition, became mostly famous in Germany late 1700s and early 1800s. However, despite the Christmas trees in America, all orthodox Americans refused to keep the particular tree on Christmas day. Because they trusted it may be alien religious belief. In fact, at that time the Britishers were ruling the country, even though, the living orthodox people adhered very strict rules. The people were severely punished if they celebrate Christmas with decorated tree in any way.
This orthodox American’s Christmas celebration continued until the Irish and Germans immigration mainly in Pennsylvania. Once they settled there, established their own traditional way of celebrating Christmas with decorated Christmas tree inside of their homes.
In December the year 1848 the Queen Victoria, Prince Albert and their children, Celebrated the Royal Christmas celebrations with well decorated Christmas tree. (They are of German heritage). The people expressed their admiration to the queen and her family.
In the same year, a popular news magazine published a picture of Queen Victoria and her family celebrates the Royal Christmas with a bright and, well decorated Christmas tree. It became universally very popular.
